Introduction

2017 Toyota Sienna

Despite being one of the longest running nameplates on the block, the Sienna continues to remain relevant due to a constant stream of updates introduced to it by Toyota.

It’s a perfect family minivan thanks to its versatility. The synergetic features on the Sienna make it a great alternative to crossovers and SUVs. The practical features such as the low step height, sliding doors, and large passenger capacity make the Sienna’s case even stronger against other large vehicle options such as SUVs. The 8-passenger seating capacity and the only 4WD in the entire class make the Sienna a very attractive option.

Other than a few changes to its interior in 2015, the Sienna has remained largely the same since 2010. In addition to an interior trim refresh, the controls and touchscreen were moved closer to the driver for enhanced convenience.

The 2017 Toyota Sienna does get two noteworthy upgrades in form of a new V6 engine and 8-speed transmission. Both of these changes enhanced the fuel economy and performance of the 2017 Toyota Sienna, for sale in Jefferson City near Moberly, Washington, and Marshall, MO.

Trim Level and Options

The 2017 model has 5 different trim levels. These are the Limited, XLE, SE, LE, and L (basic) models. The Limited, XLE, and SE all also have a Premium package. The LE and XLE come in two different capacities -for either 7 or 8 passengers. The Limited and L versions can only accommodate 7 passengers while the SE only comes in an 8-passenger seating format. All models of the Sienna feature front-wheel drive but the XLE, Limited, and LE models can also be equipped with four-wheel drive.

The L trim is equipped with alloy wheels measuring 17 inches, sliding back doors, cruise control, windshield de-icer, auto climate control, cloth upholstery, customizable driver seat, steering wheel that tilts and telescopes, rearview camera, phone and audio connectivity through Bluetooth, Siri for iPhone users, high-quality sound system with 4 speakers, 6.1-inch touchscreen, media player, USB port, and audio jack.

The Sienna LE is packed with features such as power sliding doors, heated mirrors, body-color paint on exterior trim, privacy glass, conversation mirror, overhead and floor affixed consoles, 8-way power seat, revamped “Easy-Clean” upholstery, 7-inch touchscreen compatible with Scout GPS app, 2nd and 3rd row sunshades, a high-quality sound system with 6 speakers, and HD/satellite radio. The 4WD version is shipped with 18-inch wheels.

The SE has similar features to the LE. The additional features included on the SE are sharper steering capability, better-tuned suspension, alloy wheels measuring 19 inches, a power liftgate, a unique fascia at the front, 1st and 2nd row perforated leather upholstery, premium vinyl upholstery in the 3rd row, ventilated front seats, steering wheel wrapped in leather, larger infotainment screen, and distinct gauges.

The SE Premium models include a sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, keyless access and ignition, cross-traffic alert, navigation system, Entune app integration, two 120-volt power outlets, rear seat entertainment system, a large display screen that can plays media from two sources simultaneously with split screen, and a Driver Easy Speak system, which makes it easier for rear passengers to hear the voice of the driver.

The XLE version of the 2017 Toyota Sienna is equipped with all the standard features of the SE trim. Additional features include a 4-way-passenger power seat, unique wood accents, and keyless access and ignition. The XLE Premium has all the features of the SE Premium too, along with a rear parking sensor.

Upon selecting the Advanced Tech package on FWD models you get cruise control and a forward collision alert and mitigation system.

The additional notable options available if you choose the range-topping Limited Premium model include xenon lights, automatic wipers, automatic beams, rear-seat entertainment, and upgraded leather upholstery for the 3rd row on 4WD models.

Performance

The 2017 Sienna has been equipped with advanced fuel injection technology that adds 30 horsepower to the output of the previous year’s model. The revamped 3.5-liter V6 engine can provide 296 HP. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard on the Sienna in 2017.

With a V6 engine, the Sienna is able to deliver impressive on-road performance. It takes about 7 seconds to reach 60 mph. The transmission is extremely smooth and efficient. All of these features combined create a solid driving experience.

The 2017 Sienna relies on a MacPherson front suspension and an independent back suspension. The upgrades made to the cowl enhance the rigidity of the car. The Sienna runs like a breeze and has nice, quick steering.

The SE model has a well-tuned suspension and larger 18-inch wheels that grip the road perfectly and add a boost to the performance of the car.

If the tow package is selected then the Sienna is able to handle 3,500 lbs. Its unique 4WD capability is unique in its class – no other minivan offers it in 2017.

Styling

Now, the controls are placed closer to the driver with the help of a sweeping dash. The air-conditioning, climate control, and audio functions are in full control of the driver. A 6.1-inch touchscreen is a standard feature for the Sienna. Lower trim levels feature a 3.5-inch black and white display between the gauges, whereas ever trim above and including the SE get a 4.2-inch color driver information display.

The 2017 Sienna has a better front grille design. All trim levels get redesigned taillights except for the SE, which has clear taillights. The SE trim has a sportier look that is further enhanced by a unique suspension and side rocker panels.

Interior

The Sienna does not disappoint inside, one of the most important aspects of a minivan. High-quality materials are used to create a premium interior feel. There are a lot of clever spaces for storage and there is logical control positioning.

The Sienna is equipped with a high-quality touchscreen. The touchscreen has a good graphical user-interface that is very easy to understand. A split screen rear entertainment system is also available as an option. The rear-entertainment system can play multimedia from multiple sources simultaneously.

The eight-passenger Sienna has a foldable second row with 40/20/20 splits. The center seat can be slid forward to install a child safety seat. The Sienna has enough space in the rear that a child safety seat can be easily stowed in there.

In 7-passenger capacity mode, the 2nd row has captain’s chairs. The second row has more than ample legroom and stretching space, guaranteed to leave a strong impression on your guests.

The Sienna has a maximum cargo capacity of 150 cubic feet, which is more than enough for an average family. The spacious interior makes the Sienna a perfect minivan for a modern family.

Safety

One reason the 2017 Toyota Sienna is considered to be the perfect family car is for safety reasons. The Toyota Sienna can compete with any top of the line car when it comes to safety.

During IIHS tests, the Sienna was able to earn a “Good” rating in all crash tests except for the moderate frontal impact test where it scored an “Acceptable” rating. On average, the Sienna was able to earn a 5-star rating.

All models of the Sienna are equipped with side curtain airbags as well as a knee airbag for the driver. During the 2015 redesign, a front passenger seat airbag was also introduced that increased the airbag count to 8. Higher level models come with the additional option of a forward collision alert and mitigation system, and adaptive cruise control.

The rearview camera is present on all models. The back and front parking sensors are introduced on Limited models. Limited, SE Premium, and XLE models have additional safety features in the form of a cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring system. Toyota has equipped the Sienna with an additional LATCH connector that can help parents secure a child or booster seat. Child seats can now be added in four locations throughout the vehicle.

The Sienna has a well-designed driver’s seat that provides a great view for the driver. The 180-degree view that the driver now gets thanks to the upgraded rear view camera can be used to gain a better understanding of surroundings when driving.

The Sienna stands a class above the rest of minivans available on the market with its amazing features, high-quality safety mechanisms, and comfortable driving capabilities. Consider it one of the best options for a family to drive near Jefferson City, Wildwood, Saint Peters, and Warrensburg in Missouri.
